CEBU CITY – The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW RO-VII) released P14.9M to 219 distressed Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and or Next of Kind (NOKs) on June 5 at the Department of Manpower Development and Placement (DMDP) or PESO Cebu City as part of the DMW's 30th National Migrant Workers Day celebration.
The beneficiaries each received financial, medical or burial assistance ranging from P50K to P100K taken from the Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo para sa mga OFWs na Nangangailangan or AKSYON Funds.
DMW-7 information officer Luchel Taniza shared that the activity catered to the financial needs of distressed OFWs including their families, while providing them an opportunity to learn and understand about financial literacy and migrant workers' rights.
The activity is dubbed as "Releasing of Financial Assistance under the AKSYON Funds cum Financial Awareness Seminar/Small Business Management Training (FAS/SBMT) and Migrant' Rights Awareness- A Migrant Workers' Day Celebration” in partnership with the Department of Manpower Development and Placement (DMDP) or PESO Cebu City.
