DMW7 releases over P3.725M assistance to OFWs in Cebu including Lapulapu City

CEBU CITY – The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW)-RO VII released more than P3.725M worth of financial assistance to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families in Cebu Province including Lapulapu City.

On August 20, DMW Undersecretary Felicitas Bay with its regional director, Jhoaden Lucero, Cebu governor Pamela Baricuatro and members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and other provincial officials and the Welfare Reintegration Services Division (WRSD) team, released a total of Php3,030,000.00 in financial assistance to OFWs and their families in Cebu Province, held at the Cebu Kahanas ceremonial distribution at the Social Hall, Cebu Provincial Capitol.

Of this amount, Php2.430M was awarded to 38 OFWs and/or Next of Kin (NOKs) under the Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo Para sa mga OFWs na Nangangailangan (AKSYON) Fund, while Php600K was distributed to 60 beneficiaries under the Livelihood Program for OFW Reintegration (LPOR), DMW-7 regional information officer, Luchel Taniza shared.

Taniza bared that on August 18, DMW RO-VII also released a total of Php725K in financial assistance to OFWs and their families in Lapu-Lapu City, and Php575K of which was distributed to nine OFWs and/or Next-of-Kin (NOKs) under the AKSYON Fund and Php150K was released to 15 beneficiaries under the LPOR.

All beneficiaries are constituents of Lapu-Lapu City that mayor Ma. Cynthia Chan welcomed during the DMW RO-VII’s visit to her office with some personnel from the Welfare Reintegration Services Division.

Meanwhile, nearly 40 participants from the Philippine Recruitment Agencies (PRAs) in Cebu joined the 3-day Capability Enhancement Training for the Welfare Desk Officers (WeDOs) on August 20-22 in partnership with the Coalition of Licensed Agencies for Domestic, Service and Skilled Workers (CLADS) and hosted by DMW RO-VII.

Atty. Felicitas Bay, Undersecretary for Foreign Employment and Welfare Services told the participants to always take advantage of these types of capacity training that aims to strengthen the role of WeDOs in protecting and promoting the welfare of overseas Filipino workers.

DMW-7 brings financial assistance closer to OFWs in Central Visayas

CEBU CITY – The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW)-Region VII continued to provide financial and other forms of assistance to the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families in Central Visayas.

DMW-Central Visayas released some ₱1,085,000.00 in financial assistance to OFWs and their families in Bohol Province on August 5 and some P400K worth of assistance to OFWs and their families in Mandaue City on August 4, while a repatriated OFW from Turkey, a native of Negros Oriental received emotional and assistance in the completion of her documentary requirements to avail of the livelihood and financial assistance from DMW-7.

In July this year, DMW-7 Regional Director Jhoaden Lucero delivered financial assistance to OFWs in Negros Oriental, handing over cheques to two beneficiaries--one from Valencia, who is a Balikbayan Box Scam victim, received P30K while the other from Guihulngan City is the next of kin (NOK) of a seafarer who died just months ago and received Php100K. 

According to DMW-7 information officer, Luchel Tanieza, of the P1.085M assistance for Bohol, ₱975K was distributed to 14 OFWs and/or their Next-of-Kin (NOKs) under the Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo Para sa mga OFWs na Nangangailangan (AKSYON) Fund, while, ₱110K is under the Livelihood Program for OFW Reintegration (LPOR) benefiting 11 OFWs.

Taniza added that of the P460K assistance for Mandaue City, ₱350K was distributed to five OFWs and/or Next-Of-Kin (NOKs) under the AKSYON Fund, and about P110K was release under the LPOR fund benefitting 11 OFWs.

DMW continues strong collab with various public-private sectors

Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, administered the oath of office to 10 newly elected officers of the Philippine Association of Service Exporters, Inc. (PASEI) on August 6 at the DMW Central Office in Mandaluyong City to cement the collaboration between public and private institutions to uphold ethical recruitment of Filipino workers and in promoting the rights and welfare of OFWs.

The PASEI is a recognized association of the manpower sector promoting Philippine overseas employment industry that continues to collaborate with DMW in the implementation of its reintegration programs and services for productive and sustainable return of OFWs back into their communities.

In Central Visayas, DMW-7 met with various private sector groups, congressional district officials and local government units (LGUs) in the region, including national government agencies (NGAs) to champion its commitment to extend comprehensive support to OFWs and their families.

Taniza shared that DMW-7 offers initiatives on livelihood development, reintegration, entrepreneurial training, skills enhancement, and access to government assistance programs. DMW-7: Nearly P2M aid given to OFWs from Bohol, NegOr & Siquijor

 CEBU CITY -- The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW RO-VII) released on June 12, almost PHP2 million in financial and livelihood assistance for the provinces of Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor during their respective Local and Overseas Job Fairs on Independence Day celebration.

DMW RO-VII OIC-Regional Director, Maria Eloida Cantona handed the aid to the beneficiaries under the Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo Para sa Mga OFWs na Nangangailangan (AKSYON Fund) and Livelihood program for documented and undocumented OFWs for Bohol.

DMW-7 released PHP1.280M to 19 OFWs during the Local and Overseas Job Fair in Trinidad, Bohol on June 12 in celebration of the Philippine Independence Day.

Dept. of Migrant Workers releases P14.9M to 219 OFWs in CV

CEBU CITY – The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW RO-VII) released P14.9M to 219 distressed Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and or Next of Kind (NOKs) on June 5 at the Department of Manpower Development and Placement (DMDP) or PESO Cebu City as part of the DMW's 30th National Migrant Workers Day celebration.

The beneficiaries each received financial, medical or burial assistance ranging from P50K to P100K taken from the Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo para sa mga OFWs na Nangangailangan or AKSYON Funds.

DMW-7 information officer Luchel Taniza shared that the activity catered to the financial needs of distressed OFWs including their families, while providing them an opportunity to learn and understand about financial literacy and migrant workers' rights.

The activity is dubbed as "Releasing of Financial Assistance under the AKSYON Funds cum Financial Awareness Seminar/Small Business Management Training (FAS/SBMT) and Migrant' Rights Awareness- A Migrant Workers' Day Celebration” in partnership with the Department of Manpower Development and Placement (DMDP) or PESO Cebu City.
