Zechariah Mangubat of ALCCDI Medellin bags championship for 2nd Reg’l Sci-Math Battle

CEBU CITY-- Zechariah Rei Mangubat of Araneta Learning Center for Child Development, Inc. (ALCCDI) Medellin Campus bagged the championship of this year's 2nd Regional Sci-Math Battle held on November 4 at Robinsons Galleria, Cebu City, in line with the celebration of the Department of Science and Technology’s National Science and Technology Week (DOST-NSTW) where the contenders battled in a three-round quiz consisting of an Easy, Average, and a Difficult Round.

Zecharia was accompanied by his coach Jee Marie Toralba during the 2nd Regional Sci-Math Battle hosted by the Philippine Science High School - Central Visayas Campus where Grade 6 students demonstrated their knowledge and wiz in Science and Math.

Jon Jedreck Ruiz of West City Exceptional Child Learning Center – Dumaguete City got the 2nd place while Anaiah Noelle Quimera of Cebu Normal University got the 3rd place.  The champion received ₱8,000 while the 2nd and 3rd placers received ₱5,000 and ₱3,000 respectively.

A total of 15 schools attended the Sci-Math Battle, including:  Araneta Learning Center for Child Development, Inc.; Bayawan City Science and Technology Education Center; Cebu Normal University; Cebu Roosevelt Memorial Colleges; Guihulngan South Central School; Jagna Central Elementary School;  Lazi Central School, Macario Española Memorial School; Mary Help of Christians School, Inc.; Naga Special Education Center; Sabang Elementary School; STEC-Science and Technology Elementary School; Tagbilaran City Central School SPED Center; Tanjay City South Central School and West City Exceptional Child Learning Center.

Dr. Rachel Luz Rica, Director of PSHS-CVisC, during her welcome message announced that they will increase their intake from 90 to 120 for the school year 2023-2024. This is the first in the campus's 17-year history. She also invited everyone to the 2023 Regional Sci-Math Battle, which will be held in Bohol.

This year's Sci-Math Battle took place in Cebu City where participants and guests were able to witness a digital fabrication demonstration as well as science and technology exhibits highlighting the Pisay scholars’ innovations.

A National Competitive Examination Requirement for Admission, Criteria, and Evaluation (NCE-RACE) booth was also available for those interested in learning about the institution’s scholarship offerings. (Photos: DOST-7)
