Feature: A sunset cruise with Sillimanians in Cebu

CEBU CITY – Four hours of fun, laughter, dancing, singing, cocktails and taking lots of photos while cruising along the Mactan Channel in a Sunset Infinite Cruise aboard the Jokai Marine International, Inc. (JMII)-Infinite Cruise Yacht with the 53 Sillimanians in Cebu on July 27 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. as a Pre-Founder’s Day event organized by the Silliman Alumni-Cebu Chapter led by its president, Coco dela Fuente and Alfredo Martinez team in Cebu.

“Today’s Sunset Cruise is an opportunity for us to gather together as Sillimanians, although we are all in Cebu but we don’t know each other.  This is a good opportunity to get to know each other and with our families too.  We are cruising along the Mactan Channel from the Marina Wharf in Mactan to Mandaue crossing under the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), the iconic bridge in Cebu down to Cebu City to SM-Seaside and the Nustar area,” Dela Fuente said, as she welcomed everyone.

Silliman Alumni Association, Inc. (SAAI) president, Yasmin Alih joined the group and reiterated the importance of being a member of the SAAI citing some of the benefits the members enjoy, such as gasoline and other services discounts from partner business organization in Cebu.

To get to know more the Sillimanians onboard the Yacht, color coding groups with names proved to be an easier identification advantage on a “first-name” basis as the cruise began to chill everyone, enjoying the tri-city view at sea.

Random photos, videos, reels and selfies dominate the cruise with so much laughter permeating the short journey of cruising together with like-minded people drawn by that unique ‘Silliman Spirit’!

Delbert Bagaman, a very active Sillimanian in Cebu, in his closing remarks thanked everyone that joined and those who contributed to make the cruise a memorable experience for the Sillimanians in Cebu.  “Gatherings like these, make us proud to be part of a group that we can call and lean on in times of our needs and helping each other as well as helping other communities in Cebu,” he said.

Many Sillimanians wanted to join this cruise but the yacht capacity is very strict with 60 including the crew members of 10.  Dela Fuente thinks, there could be more of these cruises in the future and even more events and activities for the Sillimanians in Cebu.

“We had fun, we had seasons in the sun,” as the line of a song goes. We didn’t have the sun, because of the storm brewing in Luzon, but we had a good chill weather instead. Until the next series of events. (Photos: MBCNewman)
