BOHOL Province— Bohol governor Arthur Yap continues to find ways to solve the “age-old” water woes of many barangays in the province as he turned over more than P20 million worth of checks to the mayors in separate batches of municipalities and barangays last week.
According to Ven Arigo of the Provincial Information and Media Relations (PRIMER) office that no access to or lack of clean and safe water has been the perennial problem in still huge number of barangays in Bohol, especially in the island towns.
Arigo said that one of the governor’s pillar thrust is to solve the water problem in many of the remote island communities in Bohol. The governor has tasked a technical team led by former National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Provincial Manager Calixto Seroje to inventory the water sources all over the province for potential development.
Local government units (LGUs) including the barangays were then required to submit project proposals and programs of works for assistance to improve their waterworks systems or develop sources.
Seroje said there are still over 600 waterless barangays and the condition cannot be reversed if no action is taken now despite the pandemic, which has already derailed essential programs.
There are important water supply projects needed by the Second and Third District localities while most of the First District areas just require upgrading of existing water work facilities, Seroje said.
Governor Yap on January 11 started the checks distribution worth of at least P100,000 each to the 25 barangays in the towns of Antequera, Balilihan, Calape, Cortes, Loon, Clarin & Talibon.
The barangays that received the checks included Poblacion sa Antequera; Baucan Norte in Balilihan; Lomboy, Calape; Dela Paz and Patrocinio, Cortes; Agsoso, Canhangdon Oriental, Canmanoc, Cogon Sur, Catagbacan Norte, Catagbacan Sur, Genomoan, Mocpoc Norte, Mocpoc Sur, Pantudlan, Talisay, Tiwi, Ubayon, Ubojan and Quinobcoban, Loon; Comaang and Nahawan, Clarin; Tomoc, San Miguel; and Sag, Talibon.

Checks were also distributed for non-water priority programs of barangays Villa Aurora in Antequera; Cansuaguit, Loon; Ilijan Sur, Tubigon; and Cambangay Norte, San Miguel.
Yap also handed water project checks on January 12 for these barangays including Lundag in Anda; Campagao, Bilar; San Isidro, Candijay; Poblacion Sur, Carmen; Alemania, Baguhan, Cadap-agan, Canlambong, Lapsaon, Oac and Pagsa, Dimiao; Candanas and Tabuan, Garcia Hernandez; Mayuga in Guindulman; Mayana, Tubod Mar, Cambuigason, Can-ipol, Larapan and Laca in Jagna; Candulang and Nagsulay, Lila; and Tayong Occidenrtal, Tocdog Dacu and Tambangan in Loay; Bagumbayan, Gotozon and Oy, Loboc; Aguipo, Baybayon, Cawayanan, Concepcion, Del Mar, Minol, Lungsodaan, San Rafael and Poblacion II, Mabini; Bagacay, Pilar; Calinginan Sur, Sevilla; Dusita and Sta.
