CEBU CITY – Thirty Modernized Public Utility Jeepneys (MPUJs) started plying the streets of Cebu City Saturday, January 16 after the Lahug Apas Transport Cooperative (LATRANSCO) launched the modernized units on Thursday, January 14 serving the route of Lahug, Apas to Carbon augmenting its initial three units already serving the area.
According to LATRANSCO chairperson Priscilla Cabonita that this is just the beginning, the transport coop will strive to grow and expressed her gratitude to all the cooperative’s members, drivers and operators for joining her in the realization of the modernization program.
“Entrusting everything to God’s will, helped
the cooperative to stand and continue amidst the coop’s perplexities in pushing
towards PUVMP,” Cabonia said.
LATRANSCO is one of the implementers of the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) in Cebu City giving its pledge of commitment to serve the riding public especially Cebuano commuters. A Provisional Authority (PA) was awarded to LATRANSCO by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB-7) to operate the MPUJs under the cooperative’s existing route.
LTFRB-7 regional director Col. Eduardo Montealto, Jr. graced the event and officiated the induction of the coop’s officers and expressed his overwhelming support to LATRANSCO. In his speech, he shared his mission on eradicating corruption that will totally help in maintaining success of all transport cooperatives in the region.
