The Mactan Newtown turns ‘Pink’ in October for Breast Cancer Awareness

LAPULAPU CITY --The Mactan Newtown, a 30-hectare township by Megaworld Corporation in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu goes ‘Pink’ in support of the global observance of Pink October, a month dedicated to breast cancer awareness and early detection, in partnership with ICanServe Foundation Inc, Cebu Link, a non-profit organization committed to advocating for breast health education.

  

The Mactan Newtown launched on October 17, the “Paint the Township Pink” lighting the entire township in shades of ‘Pink’—a symbol of unity, strength, and hope, with guests, Newtown patrons, media and members of the ICan Serve Foundation gathered at the Township Fountain Rotunda as water sprouted in colorful nuances of pink at dusk.

Marilou Kiunisala, GM of Megaworld Lifestyle Malls said that The Mactan Newtown proudly joins the Pink October-breast cancer early detection advocacy to unite the community here in support of survivors, advocate for prevention, and inspire hope for those affected by the disease in collaboration with ICanServe Foundation.

“The Township holds a series of events and activities throughout October, to engage, educate and empower the public on breast cancer awareness and early detection as a form of prevention.  Our fountain and township buildings are lit in pink to symbolize hope, strength, and solidarity with those affected by breast cancer,” Kiunisala added.

Guests and attendees were treated to a delightful food and beverage selection courtesy of Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips and Gordon Ramsay Street Burger, setting the tone for an evening of meaningful connection and advocacy. The lighting ceremony also marked the beginning of a strong and enduring partnership between The Mactan Newtown and the ICanServe Foundation in promoting women’s health awareness.

On October 19, a Free Breast Cancer Consultation was held at the Mactan Wellness Center led by Dr. Nikki Palma with the ICanServe Foundation, offering women the opportunity to consult medical professionals for early detection and health assessment. This initiative underscores the township’s commitment to making healthcare more accessible to the community.

On October 24, a Pink Zumba Party at The Mactan Newtown Boardwalk as a lively culminating month-long campaign.  This event promotes health, wellness, and camaraderie among participants, reminding everyone that taking care of one’s body is also a form of self-love and prevention. ICanServe Foundation launches Pink October- “Dance in Candyland”


CEBU CITY – The #ICanServeFoundation-Cebu with the Generation Fitness group launched Pink October-“Dance in Candyland” a fundraising dance marathon fitness party event set to happen on October 18 from 1:00-5:00 PM at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel, Exhibition Hall, aimed at promoting breast cancer awareness and funding free mammograms for all women.

“We are expecting to draw over 700 to 1000 participants, open to all ages, to inspire and encourage groups and community of dancers to come together, move with a purpose and make tangible difference in the lives and health of Filipino women,” shared Franz Ozalla and Chris Orlanes of Generation Fitness in a press conference on September 21 at Waterfront Hotel.

Pink October Dance in Candyland is a high-energy fitness event, it is a meaningful initiative to support early detection of breast cancer through the donation of free mammograms to underserved communities.  Event entry registration is P550 per person and this is inclusive of an official event shirt and entry to the Zumba dance party.

Orlanes bared that the Pink October Dance in Candyland full of vibrant colors, dancing, raffle draws and exciting giveaways, photo contests, sponsor booths and product sampling and free mammogram screening at the event venue and a special tribute to Breast Cancer Survivors.

“This event isn’t just about dancing—it’s about making a real impact.  We believe that through movement, community, and compassion, we can bring hope and awareness to the fight against breast cancer.  We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who is helping us turn this vision into reality,” said Ron Bernabe, Public Relations Officer of ICanServe Foundation, Inc.-Cebu Chapter.


According to Franz Ozalla, founder of Generation Fitness, that Generation Fitness is a community built on passion for dance fitness and advocacy for organizing meaningful events for Mental Health Awareness, World AIDS Day, and Breast Cancer Awareness.

“We are inviting everyone to this Pink October: Dance in Candyland to join the movement—literally—and show solidarity with breast cancer warriors and survivors. Every move on the dance floor will be a tribute to courage, community, and the cause,” Ozalla said.

The ICanServe Foundation, Inc.-Cebu Chapter is a non-profit organization that provides hope and help for women with breast cancer.  It promotes early detection, timely treatment, and patient empowerment through education, community-based programs, and access to vital health services.  The Foundation has been at the forefront of empowering women with information and resources that save lives.
