Manila FAME, now on its 41st year, under the theme, “Re-imagination” continues to showcase the creative potential of Filipino artisans. This year’s focus on sustainable materials and innovative design reinforced the event’s reputation as a driver of forward-thinking, eco-conscious products.

The KATHA Awards on the other hand, has long been a marker of excellence in Philippine product design, inspiring local companies to push the boundaries of creativity. This year’s edition saw over 300 nominations, reflecting the depth of talent and craftsmanship on display.

The Best Product Design for Fashion: ACHITE CHESS BOARD SET, designed by Engr. Ramir Bonghanoy for Bon Ace was chosen for its distinctive design and intricate craftsmanship. The chess board is inspired by malachite stone quarrying, crafted with malachite resin and walnut wood, with chess pieces adorned with mother-of-pearl.

This home décor piece stands apart from anything similar on the market, earning praise for its global appeal. Drawing inspiration from the majestic malachite quarries, the piece features slabs reminiscent of the deep, open fields where these precious stones are unearthed.

Expertly crafted with malachite resin and elegantly paired with walnut wood, it offers a harmonious blend of natural textures. Each chess piece is crowned with exquisite natural mother-of-pearl shells, adding a touch of luxury to the set. The faceted bases, inspired by the angular cuts in malachite quarries, further enhance the dynamic and unconventional aesthetic, making this a striking addition to any home.

The Best Product Design for Fashion: PISA HANDBAG, is inspired by the iconic Leaning Tower of Pisa and designed by Engr. Ramir Bonghanoy for Bon Ace. The Pisa Handbag captivates with its unique slanted silhouette, making it an unforgettable statement piece. This handbag showcases premium craftsmanship and eye-catching patterns that radiate luxury and sophistication.

Expertly constructed from radiant red pen shell and natural abalone mother-of-pearl, the design embodies the harmony between boldness and beauty. The iridescent abalone shimmers with refined elegance, while the striking red pen shell symbolizes the strength and confidence of the woman who carries it. Embrace individuality and timeless style with the Pisa Handbag, a true reflection of empowered femininity.

The Best Product Design for Furniture: ZULU BENCH, is designed by Angelo Cadungog for Finali Furniture. The Zulu Bench is a striking blend of minimalist elegance and bold craftsmanship. Featuring intricately wrapped lampakanay and raffia fibers around a sleek metal frame, this piece exudes both texture and refinement.

Its deep black color creates a stunning contrast against brighter backdrops, making it the perfect focal point in any modern, minimalist space. With its understated yet captivating aesthetic, the Zulu Bench is designed to command attention while harmonizing with your interior décor.

As Manila FAME 2024 continues to captivate local and international buyers alike, Cebu’s award-winning exporters are sure to attract further attention, paving the way for more Filipino brands to shine on the world stage.
