CEBU CITY – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) calls on all science and technology enthusiasts to join in the discussions of relevant and timely regional concerns and witness the presentation of S&T-based recommendations during the 2023 Visayas Regional Scientific Meeting (RSM) on April 26-27 via Zoom and Facebook Live through NAST PHL.
The RSM serves as a forum to discuss the role of science and technology in achieving greater inclusivity and welfare. It also intends to demonstrate how science and technology may be used to strengthen democratic institutions and processes.
The National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) organizes this annually in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Regional Offices as part of its long-standing commitment of bringing science closer to the Filipinos.
This year’s RSM is dubbed as “Agham at Teknolohiya para sa Demokrasya (Science and Technology for Democracy).” The choice is firmly grounded on the role of science and technology in igniting and advancing developmental empowerment in a democracy.
Among the topics for discussions include Food Security and Agrarian Reform; Access to Quality Education; Fisheries Governance; Climate Change, Marine and Fisheries Resources and Developing Blue Economy in the Visayas.
One of the event’s highlights is the annual scientific poster session. The competition showcases the latest regional research and development outputs from participating higher education institutions, research centers, and government agencies. Posters to be presented in the session are screened by the DOST Regional offices.
The Visayas Regional Scientific Meeting is open
to the general public and the registration is free. Public plenary sessions of
the conference are held from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Participants shall receive an e-certificate
upon submission of an accomplished evaluation form. Those who are interested to
