20 more new modern PUVs soon to ply streets of Cebu MINERVA BC NEWMAN

CEBU CITY – Newer modern, ecologically friendly public utility vehicles (PUVs) are now plying the various streets/routes in Cebu with the blessing and inauguration on November 18 of 20 new models of Peoples-Jeep introduced by the Cebu Peoples Multi-Purpose Cooperative (CPMPC) in early 2020 in response to the government’s PUV modernization program.

According to Col. Eduardo Montealto, Jr. regional director of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB-7) that there are now 800 eco-friendly modern PUVs all over Cebu with 200 units now plying within the Cebu-Lapulapu-Liloan-Consolacion routes.

LTFRB-7 lauded the efforts of the transport cooperatives in Cebu for their continued support to the PUVMP in region 7, with the CPMPC’s acquisition of 20 more units commutes in Cebu is now becoming safe, comfortable and ecologically friendly, Montealto said during the inauguration of these units at the LTFRB-7 office in Cebu City.

CPMPC chief executive officer, Brian Yap bared that the cooperative has now 190 available units in its franchise.  The new 20 Forland and M6 modern PUV class 3 units are compliant with the Department of Trade and Industry’s Philippine National Standards (DTI-PNS).


These units feature global positioning system (GPS), speed limiter, dashboard cameras, tilted LED monitor for entertainment and auto climate control air-conditioning. These are fuel economical units with 27 seating capacity for safe and comfortable travel, Yap said during its blessing and inauguration at its headquarters at BSR, Kagudoy Road, Basak, Lapulapu City.

These new units of Peoples-Jeep soon to ply several routes in Metro Cebu this year with 16 buses in 01K or the Parkmall-Colon-Urgello route; one modernized jeepney in each route of 13C or the Talamban-Colon route; 12L or the Labangon-Ayala; 08F or the Alumnus-Colon and 21B or the Ibabao Mandaue-Ayala routes.

Yap added that these new models are also equipped with an Automatic Fare Collection System (AFCS) to make payment more convenient, hassle-free and contactless via the use of MC3 Card, GCash and unlimited-ride promos.

“For its coop members, they are given 10-20 percent discounts and unli-rides at P25,” Yap thanked its members for the support and called on members/investors to invest with CPMPC with 107 franchise units available for investors.

 

Yap revealed that since 2020, the first 100 Class 2 Peoples-Jeep units were introduced to the CPMPC.The first 170 class 2 units were financed by the Developmenr Bank of the Philippines (DBP), the 100 units and another 50 units by the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) and 20 units by the Philuppine Cebtral Fund (PCF) with the specialized loan financing programs dedicated to support transport firms and cooperatives to acquire modern, eco-friendly jeepneys in support to the country’s transport modernization program.
