Drive, dine at the newest CCLEX tropical food park

CORDOVA, Cebu– Drive. Dine and enjoy the sunset at the newest CCLEX Tropical Food Park that opened on February 11 at the seaside of the Cebu Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) Toll bridge in the Cordova-Mactan Island side.

CCLEX corporation vice president, Herbert Laboy thanked AC Planning Events and Services for partnering with CCLEX in mounting this project and to the tenants for having interest in doing business here inside the expressway and supporting this endeavor.

“The opening of today's CCLEX Tropical Food Park signals future developments in this area geared towards providing better services and new facilities to our CCLEX road users,” Laboy said during the opening event.

He added that while this food park will be just temporary and will run for six months, CCLEC is simultaneously planning in building a more permanent facility here for the motorists-- the “CCLEX Drive and Dine.”

This way, motorists who want to take a short break from their trips, wherever they may be headed, or those who just want to enjoy the view that CCLEX offers, can do so, as part of CCLEX’s commitment of giving the motorists the ultimate expressway experience, Laboy said.

The food park can accommodate around 500 food stalls with ample parking around the area. Currently, there are only more than 40 stalls and counting as it opened in time for the Valentine’s Day event where food and concert of popular Cebuano and Filipino Reggae singers and bands that would perform on February 14.

CCLEX said that as the project progresses to a “Drive and Dine’ experience in the future, it expects a local crowd of foodies enjoying the cool sunset vibes and flying planes overhead for a unique food park dining.

First ‘In-Mall’ e-vehicle charging stations in Cebu are at SM City, SM Seaside

CEBU CITY – The first ‘In-Mall’ e-vehicle (EV) charging stations in Cebu are located at SM City and SM Seaside in Cebu City from an initial rollout in 2022 so shoppers and travelers can charge their e-vehicles, in line with SM Supermall’s commitment to create a safe and greener future for all.

“Today, we launch the first free in-mall charging stations in Cebu for both SM City Cebu and Seaside.  In 2022, 15 EV Charging stations in Metro Manila and one in SM Baguio were made available for shoppers. These stations allowed shoppers to conveniently charge their e-vehicles for free,” SM regional operations manager Antonio Jayme del Prado said in his opening statements during the event launch at SM Seaside on February 7.

Del Prado said that in pursuit of continuously providing wonderful experiences for everyone, and in its commitment to a safe and greener future for all, SM Supermalls embraces innovation with its facilities and offerings, by deployment of E-Vehicle Charging Stations across the country.

He added that the EV charging station is located at the 3rd level multi-level parking of SM City Cebu, and at the 2nd level, Mountain Wing near ramp 3 of SM Seaside City Cebu.  The charging stations are open daily during mall hours. “And the good news is, charging your e-Vehicle at SM is FREE!”

Inez Cahigas of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) expressed DTI’s full support to endeavors and all programs that lessen carbon footprint and sustainability advocacy.  She lauded SM Supermalls for embarking on this e-vehicle charging stations in the malls for the convenience of shoppers.

Rino Dominic Cabungcal, Science Research Analyst of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Regional Office VII thanked the organizers for this significant step toward sustainable development to reduce carbon footprint and address air pollution in the country.

“The transportation sector is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution, which affects our health, the environment, and the planet as a whole. The adoption of electric vehicles is one of the key solutions to this challenge, and electric vehicle charging stations play a crucial role in making this transition possible,” Cabungcal said.

He added that in recent years there has been a big increase in the number of electric vehicles on the road, and this trend is only expected to continue as technology advances and becomes more affordable.

“However, to truly make electric vehicles a viable alternative to gasoline-powered vehicles, we need a user-friendly charging infrastructure that is accessible and convenient to use,” Cabungcal said.

The ‘In-Mall’ e-vehicle charging station

Embraer, Air New Zealand partner on Next-Gen Sustainable Aircraft programs

SINGAPORE -- Embraer and Air New Zealand became log-term partner when Air New Zealand joined Embraer’s Energia Advisory Group São José dos Campos, Brazil, on February 7 signing   an agreement with Embraer to join its Energia Advisory Group, a group of airlines, lessors, manufacturers and other aviation experts advising Embraer’s Energia project in developing sustainable aircraft for the future.

Embraer also became a long-term partner in Air New Zealand’s Mission Next Gen Aircraft initiative, working alongside Air New Zealand to accelerate the development and introduction of zero emissions aircraft technology for regional fleet in New Zealand.

The companies will work together on the design requirements for next-generation sustainable aircraft.  Air New Zealand is a unique airline with complex mission and fleet requirements with significant domestic business, connecting customers and cargo to 20 different regions around New Zealand.

Air New Zealand Chief Sustainability Officer Kiri Hannifin said, the airline has bold sustainability goals that won’t be met by a ‘business as usual’ approach.  Mission Next Gen Aircraft aims to accelerate the technology and infrastructure needed to decarbonize its domestic flights, by joining forces with the world’s leading aircraft developers, innovators and infrastructure providers.

“We want to be a leader in the roll out of zero emissions aircraft in New Zealand.  Having Embraer as one of our long-term partners will grow our collective understanding of zero emissions aircraft technology as it develops and will give them the confidence, they are developing a product that’s viable for us,” Hannifin bared.

Embraer Commercial Aviation President and CEO Arjan Meijer said that smaller, regional aircraft are going to be the first platforms on which new fuel and propulsion systems can be introduced effectively.  Embraer looks forward to contributing to Air New Zealand’s initiative and also adding their expertise and requirements into Embraer’s Energia project.

“As the global leader in regional aircraft, Embraer is ideally positioned to bring disruptive technologies to smaller aircraft first. Air New Zealand, operator of a large, complex, and diverse regional network, is the perfect collaborator and we’re proud to be a part of this initiative,” Meijer added.

Embraer’s Energia project explores a range of sustainable concepts to carry up to 50 passengers. The project is considering a number of energy sources, propulsion architectures and airframe architectures to reduce carbon emissions by 50 percent starting from 2030, a key step in its goal to be net carbon neutral by 2050.

Sen. Marcos hands over CLOAs to farmers, cash aid to drivers in Eastern Visayas

PALO, Leyte-– Senator Imee Marcos handed over Certificates of Land Ownership Award (CLOA) to more than 550 farmers, cash aid to 500 pedicab drivers in Palo, Leyte during her January 26 trip in Eastern Visayas region.

Marcos called on the region’s farmers to help the government increase food production towards gaining food sufficiency for the next generation.  She urged the Department of Agriculture (DA) and Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) to help local farmers acquire more farm equipment and input like fertilizers.

The distribution of cash aid to Pedicab drivers come from the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Present during the ceremony were DAR Secretary Conrado Estrella III, Leyte officials including Governor Jericho “Icot” Petilla, Mayor Erwin Ocana of Tolosa, Cong. Jude Acidre of party list Tingog, and Eastern Samar officials.
