Aboitiz Construction, Tsuneishi lay groundwork for LCIC civil engineering building

LAPULAPU CITY -- Aboitiz Construction in partnership with Tsuneishi Holdings (Cebu) Inc. laid out the groundwork on August 12, for the construction of the Lapu-Lapu Cebu International College (LCIC) 16-month Civil Engineering Building project in Bankal, Lapu-Lapu City, to strengthen the educational infrastructure, generate local jobs and train future engineers for careers in civil engineering and shipbuilding.

“This project is more than just a building. Together with Lapu-Lapu Cebu International College and Tsuneishi Holdings (Cebu) Inc., we are combining expertise, resources, and shared values to build the Civil Engineering Building—a symbol of quality and innovation,” Ramez Sidhom, Chief Operating Officer of Aboitiz Construction said.

LCIC President Professor Grace Gorospe-Jamon, thanked the partners for their support saying, “We thank Aboitiz Construction for this partnership. No one is insignificant here—everyone plays a role in turning this facility into fruition.”

on the other hand firmly believed that the facility is closely aligned with the engineering and design aspects of shipbuilding that plays an important role in nurturing future engineers who will lead the shipbuilding and civil engineering industry in the Philippines.

According to Sidhom, the project is set for completion in 16 months providing modern facilities to strengthen educational infrastructure and prepare students for careers in civil engineering and shipbuilding.  The LCIC Civil Engineering Building is designed as both an academic hub and a training ground, the building will help equip future engineers with the technical knowledge and practical skills needed in the industry.

The scope of work covers civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection components, highlighting Aboitiz Construction’s integrated capabilities. The project is expected to generate nearly 200 jobs, with 90 percent of manpower to be sourced locally, Sidhom added.

The new Civil Engineering Building symbolizes innovation and preparing future engineers to lead the shipbuilding and civil engineering industry in the country.  The initiative further strengthens the long-standing partnership between Aboitiz Construction and Tsuneishi Holdings (Cebu) Inc., which began in 1996 through Tsuneishi Heavy Industries Cebu Inc. (THICI) in Balamban, Cebu.

Over the years, Aboitiz Construction has supported multiple shipbuilding phases and generated an average of about 1,500 jobs per year, with most hires coming from local communities and projects like the LCIC Civil Engineering Building help business to prosper and communities to thrive. Lagonglong Port project to boost logistics/trade capacity in Mindanao

 MISAMIS ORIENTAL—The Aboitiz Construction completed the Lagonglong Port project in partnership with AMADI MGT Terminals Inc., to boost logistics and trade capacity and strengthens Aboitiz’ commitment to infrastructure development and economic growth in the Mindanao area.

The private commercial port, located in Lagonglong, Misamis Oriental, included the construction of dock facilities, storage areas for perishable goods, and the installation of loading and unloading equipment.   As the official contractor, Aboitiz Construction deployed up to 300 workers during peak construction periods, highlighting its dedication to creating local jobs.

“We are not just building a port; we are fostering economic growth and job creation. Our commitment to operational excellence drives us to continue our partnership with AMADI in advancing both business and communities,” Aboitiz Construction’s Chief Operating Officer Ramez Sihom said.

With a handling capacity of up to 3.3 million metric tons of bulk cargo annually, the new port is poised to streamline logistics for transporting agricultural products and raw materials, strengthen regional trade capacity, and create employment opportunities for the local community.

The berth measures 23 meters in width and 250 meters in length, with a seabed elevation of -21 meters from mean lower low water (MLLW), allowing it to accommodate larger vessels and support efficient cargo handling operations.

Aboitiz Construction signed a partnership with DICT Bulk Terminal, Inc. in October 2024 to develop a new berth dedicated to cement shipments at the Davao International Container Terminal (DICT) in Panabo City, Davao del Norte.


This project marks the construction of DICT’s fifth berth and is targeted for completion within the year. The facility primarily accommodates cement and cementitious materials, further supporting the region’s infrastructure and development needs and enhancing port efficiency and supporting the nation’s growing logistics and trade demands.

Aboitiz Construction has been a long-standing partner of DICT, having built all four of its existing berths—the latest of which was completed in 2021. That project notably enhanced operational efficiency by reducing vessel turnaround times and increasing the terminal’s capacity to handle agro-industrial goods.

This continued collaboration demonstrates Aboitiz Construction’s marine infrastructure expertise and its commitment to advancing the country’s logistics and trade capabilities.  In addition to marine infrastructure capabilities, Aboitiz Construction previously completed major projects in Balamban, Cebu for Tsuneishi Heavy Industries.

These included a 100-hectare shipbuilding facility and the Pier Head and Admin Building Project, which involved extensive reclamation works, a causeway, and various support facilities.
