CCCI to enhance value and engagement in Cebu

CEBU – The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), Cebu’s business voice, vows to enhance value and engagement to make Cebu as the hub for business, academic excellence, investment, green sustainability in waste disposal, flood control and environmental protection making Cebu the best place to invest and enjoy in paradise.

“There is a need to enhance existing tactical initiatives to provide deeper value and keep pace with evolving stakeholder needs,” CCCI president, Jay Yuvallos said at the Chamber’s general members meeting and induction of new members on December 5 at Marcopolo Plaza Hotel, Cebu City.

The focus, according to Yuvallos, is anchored on five vital pillars: academic-industry alliance, meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE).  Cebu will position itself as a center for excellence, with a key program launching next year to teach teachers how to adapt to the rapidly evolving landscape, especially in the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Cebu holds a distinct advantage as a destination for global events due to its world-class infra, unique culture, and unmatched hospitality, Yuvallos also mentioned the importance of utilities, including water, power, and broadband connectivity, for the dynamic and expanding economy.

The sustainability and environmental stewardship alliance aim to promote responsible future-ready practices, with Cebu leading the ASEAN circular economy business alliance. Key sectors for transitioning to a circular economy include agri-food, textile garments, tourism and hospitality, human building and construction, and waste recovery, he said.

“Cebu has installed floating booms across strategic rivers to prevent waste from reaching waterways and coastal areas, aiming to make Cebu City the first in the Philippines to have zero ocean plastic contribution,” Yuvallos added.

He also highlighted Cebu's strategic location as a natural logistics hub in the Asia Pacific region and efforts are being made to modernize ports and transport systems to boost global connectivity and address challenges like the need for a skilled workforce and harmonized policies.

Policy recommendations are also being created to strengthen the supply chain and ensure Cebu remains competitive and investment-ready. A call for a Cebu Master Plan built on global standards has been submitted to the Regional Development Council, with input from key stakeholders, Yuvallos bared.
