DUMAGUETE CITY— Silliman University, through the Culture and Arts Council (CAC) is set to host a national music and culture summit on May 15-17 and co-presented by the Friends of the Environment in Negros Oriental in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
With the theme, “Gasa sa Kinaiyahan ug Kabilin,” the Philippine Music and Culture Summit aims to convene music leaders and practitioners from various fields of music in the Philippines and is designed to identify ways in which music and culture can build bridges and promote positive change.
Dr. Diomar Abrio, chairperson of the CAC
observed that many young people, especially in highly urbanized cities, have
limited exposure to local and traditional arts and music, and are now heavily
influenced by popular songs streaming from different music platforms.
Abrio said that the summit serves as an avenue to discuss and generate new strategies and initiatives to help sustain local culture.
The summit also features a series of panel presentations, performances, and workshops that will engage participants in discourses about the role of music and culture in improving the world.
