CEBU CITY – Job seekers, watch out for a nationwide simultaneous jobs fair in Manila, Cebu and Davao dubbed as “Trabaho, Turismo, Asenso Tourism Jobs Fair” where a total of 1,538 job vacancies from the tourism industry sector are available from the 293 registered participating establishments during its initial leg that the DOT and DOLE simultaneously launch in those cities across the country on September 22-24, 2022.
According to Gabato, the rationale of this event is to address the lack of and difficulty in hiring tourism workers post pandemic a concern that was shared by the accommodation establishments/stakeholders to DOT secretary Maria Cristina Frasco during her listening tour sessions with them.
Gabato bared that on August 30, secretary Frasco announced DOT-DOLE collaboration with the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) to open up employment and livelihood opportunities to Filipinos in the tourism industry by jointly conducting job fairs in various parts of the country to fill in the gaps of job lost due to the pandemic.
DOLE said that based on its online establishment reporting system, the accommodation and food service activities industry recorded 12,717 local job displacements from 739 reporting establishments from January to June 2022.
The Manila leg Tourism Jobs Fair runs from September 22 to 24 at SMX Convention Center Manila in Pasay City while the Cebu and Davao legs are happening on September 22-23 at the SM City Cebu and Abreeza Mall in Davao City, respectively.

Hotel Resort and Restaurant Association of Cebu (HRRAC) president and Bai Hotel GM Alfred Reyes and Savoy Hotel general manager Josef Chiongbian are eagerly waiting and in full support to the event saying that job fairs are avenue for jobs development and opening, giving opportunities to more Filipinos, Cebuano in particular especially now that the tourism industry sector is already picking up.
DOLE-7 Regional director, Lilia Estellore bared that this the 7th jobs fair being held in Cebu post-pandemic and typhoon Odette, she added that more than 1,000 job vacancies are available from the hotel and resort industry, shipping and logistics industry, land transport industry, food ad restaurant, ESL industry and others.
