Some 196,098 motorcycles plates are ready for release at LTO-7

MINERVA BC NEWMAN

CEBU CITY – The Land Transportation Office (LTO-7) here has called on all motorcycle dealers and owners to claim/pick-up these plates, a total of 196,098 motorcycle plates are on-hand at LTO-7 as of September 27, this year.

LTO-7 regional director Victor Emmanuel Caindec said that of the total number, 143,044 are ready for pickup at the Temporary Offsite Plate Distribution Office in SM Seaside.

Caindec added that owners can verify the availability of their motorcycle plates by texting the details of their motorcycle registration such as plate number, MV file number, registration date, and name of the owner to 0947-349-9965 to facilitate easy retrieval.

Data from the LTO-New Registration Unit (NRU-7) only 5,661 motorcycle plates have been released and claimed and based on the motorcycle plates on hand of LTO-7, bulk numbers are from those motorcycles registered in 2018.

There are 137,081 plates on-hand for 2018; 5,217 for 2016; and 746 for both 2014 and 2015 and for 2021, there are a total of 53,053 plates that are already on-hand at the LTO-7.

Caindec has once again reminded all motorcycle owners to claim their plates without paying an additional cost, this after LTO 7 received reports on the alleged releasing of motorcycle plates through dealers that asked for an additional payment.

He said that these complaints that were raised to their agency have no affidavit and most complainants are afraid to execute one.  This prompted the agency to require a memorandum of agreement to all motorcycle dealers when they will claim the plates on behalf of their customers.

"We want to release through dealers, except dili mi mosugot nga walay Memorandum of Agreement nga mo pirma sila. Ngano? Og naay pasangil nga nangayo og bayad sa plaka, sila ang manubag," Caindec on his Facebook post. (We want to release through dealers except we don’t allow it without the memorandum of agreement that they sign the release on behalf of their clients. Why? So that when there are complaints of asking for additional payments for the releasing of plates, they are the ones to answer them.)

Caindec added that so far, no dealer has signed the memorandum yet, "Wala pa many ni pirma, so dili tingali sila gusto manubag." (No dealer has signed yet, they probably don’t want to be responsible). (Photos: LTO7/FB)
