Samsung Electronics launches Galaxy A series, available in markets now

CEBU CITY— Samsung Electronics unveiled on March 15, the Galaxy A54 5G and Galaxy A34 5G, two innovative smartphones that advance Samsung Galaxy’s commitment to designing awesome mobile experiences.

These new additions to the popular Galaxy A series will help users shoot steady and crisp videos, see clearly even in bright conditions, and do more of the things they love with battery life that lasts more than two days.

The Galaxy A54 5G and Galaxy A34 5G deliver stunning images with clear quality even in bright conditions, making use of Samsung Galaxy’s leading Nightography and AI capabilities. Whether users want to capture the perfect selfie or connect through super-smooth video calls, the Galaxy A54 offers astonishing detail thanks to its 32MP front camera.

The new smartphones produce video with amazing clarity, combatting shakiness and blur with improved optical image stabilization (OIS) and video digital image stabilization (VDIS). AFP steps up deployment to help suppress lawless violence in NegOr.

 CAMP LAPULAPU—The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) stepped up deployment of more personnel in Negros Oriental in a sent off ceremony, March 11, following the announcement of DND Officer-In-Charge, Senior Undersecretary Carlito Galvez Jr., and the AFP Chief of Staff, General Andres Centino. to work with the PNP in suppressing lawlessness and criminality and restore normalcy in Negros.

 

The troops are composed of personnel from the six Army Battalions in Negros Island: the 11th Infantry Battalion; 94th Infantry Battalion; 79th Infantry Battalion; 62nd Infantry Battalion; 15th Infantry Battalion, and the 47th Infantry Battalion.

These troops are deployed in the areas of 3rd and 2nd Districts of Negros Oriental to step up the joint law enforcement operation in the province.

“The troops will be working closely with our PNP counterpart to step up the joint law enforcement efforts in order to capture the remaining suspects of the violent attack that killed Gov Degamo and eight other individuals, the soonest possible time,” LT/Gen Benedict Arevalo, Commander of Visayas Command bared.


The deployment was in line with the announcement of DND Officer-In-Charge, Senior Undersecretary Carlito Galvez Jr. and the AFP Chief of Staff, General Andres Centino that additional AFP troops are to be deployed in Negros Island to suppress lawlessness and impunity and restore the peace and order situation in the area.

Arevalo also stressed that the deployment aims to ease the tension in the province and to encourage witnesses to come out, including the witnesses of previous unsolved killing incidents in the province.

“There will be no letup in our security efforts with the PNP. As mentioned by Senior Undersecretary Galvez Jr., this is the day of reckoning, and we will never falter in our efforts to enforce the full might of the law and restore peace and order in the entire Negros island,” Arevalo said.

Special Joint Task Force Negros was recently organized to step up the joint law enforcement operation of the AFP and the PNP in Negros Island. It is headed by Brigadier General Marion Sison, the Commander of the 3rd Infantry Division.

The Task Force will not only focus on the violent attacks that killed nine individuals including Gov Roel Degamo of Negros Oriental but will also dig deeper on previous unsolved killing incidents on the island.

Apart from the deployment of an Army elite unit to help the PNP in pursuing the remaining suspects of the violent attack against Gov Degamo, mlitary personnel can now be seen working with the PNP in the conduct of checkpoints and security patrols to ensure the safety of the family of the victims of the violent attack, build the confidence of the witnesses for them to come out including those of the previous unsolved killing incidents, and enforce the full might of the law.

 “Our troops are highly motivated to perform these tasks as directed by our Commander-In-Chief. Rest assured that justice will be served swiftly and that peace and order will be restored for all our people in the island,” Lt Gen Arevalo assured the people of Negros Oriental. Cebu lady lawyers makes history as IBP Cebu City elects new sets of officers

CEBU CITY -- The Cebu Lady Lawyers Association (CELLA) made a breakthrough when it elected the first transgender woman as its president, Atty. Regal Oliva as the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) also ushered in new sets of officers in an election held recently.

Oliva is the Immediate Past President of the IBP Cebu City Chapter and now sits as Deputy Governor for the Eastern Visayas Region of the IBP.

“I consider this breakthrough to be a challenge to break more glass ceilings, while I am guided with women legal luminaries in Cebu. We aim to promote more advocacies to protect women and girls, as well as focus on the urgency to push for more equal rights and safe spaces for all,” Oliva said.

CELLA is an organization of women lawyers in Cebu advocating for an inclusive society onwards gender equality, providing access to justice for the poor and underprivileged women, and lobbying laws in the communities to stop violence against women and girls.

Elected with Oliva were Lawyers Georgia Herrera-Klepp as External Vice President, Mary Grace Casano as Internal Vice President, Jizza Raagas as Secretary, Elizabeth Reyes as Treasurer, Angel Fernandez-Dumon as Auditor, and Lalaine Salve-Esmeralda as PRO.

Also elected among the Directors were Lawyers Hazel Espina, Tercel Mercado-Gephart,Rhea Senining-Judilla, Mary Rose Salvatiera-Lubino, Niva Costanilla-Vilamor.

Former President Michelle Mendez-Palmares, who sits as the incumbent President of the IBP Cebu City Chapter expressed her excitement on the results of the elections as it does not only make history for CELLA, but for the whole legal community in Cebu, showing much respect and acceptance for all regardless of the individual’s gender expression. “This just shows how progressive the Cebu legal community is, much more CELLA,” she added.

IBP Cebu City elects Hernaez as president

The Cebu City Chapter of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) meanwhile, elected its new set of officers with Atty. Rosendo Hernaez III as president succeeding Atty. Michelle Mendez-Palmares who will end her term on March 31, 2023.

Hernaez was unopposed for the position.  “The presidency of the Chapter is both a challenging and fulfilling task most especially when the previous administration has done such great programs for the poor and underprivileged,” he said.

It is his resolve to focus on the most important tasks, forged alliances with other chapters, and extend more partnerships with other law organizations to expand the reach of the IBP to more of its members, Hernaez added.

 The new set of officers will assume their office on April 1, 2023.  The other officers elected into office are Lawyers Bernardino Amago IV as Vice President, Lalaine Salve-Esmeralda as Secretary, Mark Anthony Gaviola as Treasurer, Darling Chyrmyth Wagas-Estorgo, Julius Oliver Moeller. The elected Directors are Lawyers Mark Gregory Avila, Mary Grace Casano, Georgia Herrera-Klepp, Rhea Mae Senining-Judilla, and Nestor Crispin Miguel Lumapas.

The elections were held simultaneously among all Chapters of the IBP in the country and Cebu City is one of the three best Chapters in the Philippines with various undertakings cited as outstanding projects and programs, especially in their systems for legal aid.

“The new set of officers is composed of the most effective and reliable members who have always been ready to serve more the indigents, defend the oppressed, and cater more programs for the least, the lost, and the last,” Palmares said.

The IBP is the official organization of all Philippine lawyers whose names appear in the Roll of Attorneys of the Supreme Court. Created on October 5, 1970, the Commission on Bar Integration was tasked “not only to ascertain the advisability of integration of the Bar, but even more, to serve a common vehicle of the Court and the Bar in fashioning a blueprint for integration and putting the same into actual operation.
