EMB7 calls for a waste-free Sinulog celebrations

​CEBU CITY— The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB-7) called for a waste-free Sinulog to put meaning in the celebrations of the feast of the Holy Child, Santo Niño. 

“We may not fully eradicate the garbage haphazardly thrown anywhere but we could lessen its generation,” Cindylyn Pepito of the Environmental Education and Information Unit, DENR-EMB7 said.

According to Pepito, this Zero Waste Month, EMB7 invites everyone to join the “Environmental Video para sa Kalikupan” Contest where great prizes await!  Join, have fun, learn, and help us spread the good word for our environment, she added.

Mechanics of the contest are as follows:

1. This contest is open to all Central Visayas Residents. No age limit.

2. Only one (1) entry per participant/per account is allowed.

3. To join the contest, participants must like the EMB Region7 FB page first and take a screenshot as proof. Send to us the screenshot along with these details:

• Address:

• Age:

• Contact Number:

4. THERE WILL BE NO LIMIT OF CONTESTANTS BUT ONLY 25 BEST ENTRIES will be qualified to receive our prizes. 

5. The Envi video must be at least 1 minute long but not more than 2 minutes.

6. The video content must be about “eco-friendly and plastic-free ways to celebrate SINULOG FESTIVAL”. You may also include the advantages of refraining the use of single-use plastics or other related topics. Be as creative as possible.

7. The video can be in Bisaya, Tagalog, English, or a combination of the three. 

8. All entries must be submitted not later than 5:00 p.m. of January 23, 2023 to r7eeiu@emb.gov.ph. Participant must provide 2-3 sentences explaining/describing the concept of the Envi video)

9. All entries will be posted on EMB Region7 FB page on January 24, 2023. Like/hear/wow/care reactions for each entry will be counted on January 31, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. which will comprise 10% of the total score

10. Winners will be announced in our FB Page in the afternoon of January 31, 2023.

11. Employees from EMB, DENR, MGB and attached Offices are disqualified from joining the contest.

12. All entries to this “Environmental Video para sa Kalikupan Contest” shall become the property of DENR-EMB7. This grants the Bureau the right to use the submitted materials in its activities, crediting the copyright owners.

Criteria for Judging 

Content and Relevance of the Theme - 40% (Share-worthiness or the information value of the concept); 

Artistic Value, and communication Potential of the Video - 35% (Execution, dynamic editing, and overall quality of production); Technical Excellence and quality - 15% and Audience Impact - 10 percent.

Prizes consists of the following: 1st Runner up - 5,000; 2nd Runner up - 3,000; 3rd Runner up - 2,000; Consolation Prize - 1,000.
