CPMS collaborates with top notch coaches for workshops on inclusion, mental health

MANDAUE CITY – The Children’s Paradise Montessori School celebrated its 18th founding year anniversary with the theme “Spark Joy! GRIT Together” on January 28 with various activities and performances from its students, faculty and alumni and workshops on education inclusion and mental health.

Marivic Bathan, CPMS president, in a press conference on January 28, said that they used the words CPMS Debut to signify the school’s coming out in the world.  The celebration’s opening program will feature original songs, one of which is “Stronger Together” to mark our coming out.

According to her GRIT is an acronym for Grow, Reconnect, Ignite and Thrive. GRIT is popularized by author Angela Duckworth who wrote the book Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance.

Bathan said the CPMS community has established the culture of collaboration even from the construction of its school building, the cost, its architectural design, its advocacy for organic farming and “green-minded” environment and climate change, have all been because of collaboration among the parents, alumni and other outside sponsors who felt connected with the school’s program and advocacy.

“The pandemic has taught us so many lessons. The parents are the primary teachers and that they must also be trained for coaching spaces and other services.  We have tapped Mark Saballa, the co-founder of Coach Services to help us in the school,” Bathan added.

Saballa conducts various coaching services for those children who have challenges and also coaching parents, teachers and children with workshops and giving them tools to empower everyone to help and support the child with challenges.  These are workshops for inclusion and mental health, Bathan shared.

There will be four breakout workshops to be conducted by renowned coaches. The main thrust of the workshops, which Bathan said is a mini-summit that has something to do with the well-being and a touch of education.

Learning Session 1A tackled the subject “A Strength-based Living: Our Natural Gifts” with Coach May Soriano who is a Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach, a Pioneer of Life and Corporate Coaching in the Philippines, a 2019 World Women Leadership Awardee and has been recognized as among the 2017 Best 100 Global Coaching Leaders.

Learning Session 1B, which was held simultaneously focused on “The Spirituality of Joy: Youth and the Path to Love” with Fr. Loreto Jaque as the speaker. Fr. Jaque is the 1st Biodanza Practitioner from the Philippines trained in Play and Expressive Arts Therapy and a member of the Philippine Mental Health Association (PMHA) and was a Missionary Priest in Lima, Peru.

Following these, two more workshops were also conducted simultaneously.  The topic for the Learning Session 2A was “Education for a New World: Relevance of Inclusion.”  The speaker was Mark Saballa, co-founder of Coaching Space Inclusion, Specialist and Consultant as well as a sought-after trainer and resource person.

On the other hand, Coach Ricky Jhon “RJ” Goyeneche discussed the topic “Learning Session 2B Emotional Mastery 101: How to Fight Negative Thoughts and Live a Happier Life.”  He is the 1st certified Brain Health Coach and Trainer in the Philippines, the founder of Prodeuz Training and Tools for Personal Development, a Neuro Linguistic Programming Trainer and a Neuro Semantics Genius. CPMS celebrates 18 years of Montessori’s inclusive education advocacy

MANDAUE CITY – The Children’s Paradise Montessori School (CPMS) in Canduman, Mandaue City marked its 18th year founding anniversary, calling it the CPMS Debut to signify the school’s coming out in the world having founded a strong adherence to the Montessori method of education with inclusion as its continuing advocacy.

CPMS president, Marivic Bathan explained that the school decided to celebrate its 18th anniversary because it’s time for them to show the world the school’s thrust of providing quality education for all, including children with special needs.

Bathan said, the CPMS Debut with the theme “Spark Joy! GRIT Together,” was held on January 28 at the school’s premises which featured performances that celebrated the school’s past, present and the future.

“We felt that “Grit” was the experience of what we had just to get through the pandemic and give us an opportunity to really thrive. Our 18 years were really about growing together, reconnecting, igniting and more reason for us to exist and thrive together,” she explained.

She noted the need for an antidote to the school’s pandemic experience that affected the mental health of everyone due to sadness, loneliness and disconnection. “Our intention is that 2023 is about creating opportunities and moments of joy,” she added.

Bathan bared that GRIT, on the other hand is an acronym for Grow, Reconnect, Ignite and Thrive.  It symbolizes CPMS’s experience at the height of pandemic; the transition that is the present and moving forward which is the future.

GRIT is popularized by author Angela Duckworth who wrote the book Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance.

Bathan recalled that they highlighted this during an international training organized for Montessori schools all over the world, which drew the participation of more than 100 Montessori teachers, administrators and medical professionals.

CPMS has strong foundation on the Montessori education method

According to Bathan, Dr. Maria Montessori developed the Montessori Method in the early 1900s when she was appointed co-director of a training institute for special education teachers. The Montessori method was a combination of educational and medical components.

She pointed out that CPMS is going back to the advocacy of Dr. Montessori with the education component combined with medical part and intervention.

“CPMS is unique in its effective Montessori inclusion model.  It’s a system we have put together which includes integrating children of different needs. The school opened its doors to children with different needs, giving them various interventions so they can be integrated in a bigger society,” Bathan said.

CPMS hired six occupational therapists and two speech and language pathologists and is also considering the promotion of its adult training program.  The school has encouraged parents of the students to participate in a series of workshops which aims to help parents create an environment at home that nurture and help children realize their potentials, she bared. “Our direction is we want to become an intentional learning community with one of our thrust to promote adult training program.  The school is looking at the possibility of expanding the program to include parents, educators and medical professionals outside the school community,” Bathan said.

The school is also doing community projects in partnership with the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. by providing workshops on special education for child development workers or teachers.  Eventually, the school’s goal is to become a center of excellence in 2025, when it celebrates its 20th anniversary, she revealed.

Globe, DepEd join hands to address child abuses in school premises

CEBU CITY – Globe telecom and Department of Education’s (DepEd)-Child Protection Unit (CPU) joined hands to address the proliferation of abuses committed against children, especially within school premises.

“This endeavor will impact the lives of our learners and schools. With this, we hope to forge a strong partnership with Globe, as we hope to share our goal of providing quality, enabling, and liberating basic education to Filipino learners by protecting them from all forms of violence, abuse, bullying, neglect, cruelty, exploitation, and other conditions prejudicial to their development,” DepEd-CPU OIC director Suzette Gannaban-Medina said.

To support the program, Globe extends use of its m360 service, a web-based, multi-channel message blaster allowing large-scale launch of campaigns and advocacies. Through the m360 service, the CPU is further equipped to manage child safety inquiries around the country, and also engage in education drives through mobile connectivity, Crisanto said.

"I am happy that we (DepEd) are taking strides in the campaign to end exploitation, abuse, and violence in our schools… DepEd will ensure a safe and nurturing learning environment by strengthening child protection mechanisms in schools," Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte vowed to provide a safe environment for children in school in her message at the Culminating Activity of 30th National Children’s Month on November 24.
