Childlink continues to hone its students’ leadership skills, potentials

CEBU CITY -- Childlink Learning Center and Childlink Highschool Inc. promotes the development of its students’ leadership skills and potentials through the school’s Student Council which actively involved in the planning and implementation of various school activities.

Maria Theresa Tio, Childlink founder and school directress explained that ever since the school started offering the pre-school education, it has always put premium on the development of the leadership potential of their students.

“We develop leaders because we want them to be solution-oriented.  Students cannot remember everything they learned from the books or the teacher’s lecture.  We provide them with relevant experiences; we put premium on service-oriented projects,” Tio said.

The school has come up with several advocacies for beneficiary communities such as Reading, anti-teenage pregnancy, environmental protection, climate change and cyberbullying.

Student Council President Anton Enrique Rentuza, in his opening remarks during an event held in celebration of the school’s 25th anniversary noted that the school in its 25 years of existence has provided 25 years of learning, 25 years of service and 25 years of molding responsible leaders with the potential to change the world.

Tio said the school has allowed the Student Council to come up with proposals for the various school events which they would implement upon review and approved by the school administration.

The school had started this mission of developing leaders when it was still offering its pre-school program in June 1997.  She explained that even among preschoolers, there are many ways to develop their leadership skills, such as assigning students to lead the prayer or designate them as hallway leaders or teacher assistants and many other creative ways to develop young students.

This thrust has helped even the Linkers who were not given major tasks during their years in school. “There are ways we can develop students and instill in them the things that they can do to improve themselves and give value to others through the contributions that they can give to their peer groups, grade level groups, and others,” Tio said.

Through the school’s efforts, Linkers, even those who did not have positions in the Student Council, acquire the “Can Do” attitude. The acceptance and willingness to change is inculcated in the students. This strategy has generated good results among its students, Tio bared.

According to the feedback of the school’s alumni, after they finish their High School at Childlink and move to other schools or college, they are often chosen to become leaders.  The school’s Creed which ends with “A Linker Stands out in the Crowd” has been inculcated among the Linkers through the years, Tio pointed out.

She also emphasized that although the school has a small population, it offers a myriad of advantages.  It has a lot more to offer and provide greater opportunities for students to excel.  This leadership development thrust is on top of the school’s dynamism in preparing the curriculum for every school year.

“Every year, we focus on reengineering our curriculum because the students’ needs are constantly changing,” she said.   Childlink prepares its tweaked curriculum every school year while teachers prepare the weekly lesson based on the school’s syllabus to ensure that the school continues to offer quality education.

Childlink continues with its vision of creating leaders and entrepreneurs by providing relevant and dynamic curriculum that answers the needs of the times. It sees to it that the physical, mental and social experiences that the students, teachers and staff will have will not be boxed by tradition but will be in a constant process of reengineered dynamism, Tio stated when she spoke during Childlink @ 25 Years activity held on April 30, 2022.

Meanwhile, the school is applying for limited face to face classes but, Childlink will retain the small population because it wants to ensure the safety and well-being of its students.  Once approved, the school will implement blended learning, with students attending face-to-face classes on some days and online classes on other days.

She then urged parents to look at the advantages of having their children acquire not only academic knowledge at Childlink but to look into the school’s curricular advantage of providing experiences that support the total development of the students that prepares them as they join the larger community upon completion of their basic education.
