Cebu Province continues to sustain R’Cebu, now on its 3rd year run

CEBU CITY – The Province of Cebu assured Cebuanos to continue and sustain the R’Cebu program, a partnership project of the Province of Cebu and Robinsons Galleria-Cebu to support the local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to showcase their products, food, crafts and artisans at the mall.

R’Cebu, on its 3rd year this year, mounted another exhibit/fair at the Robinsons Galleria on February 17-19, 2023 showcasing the cottage industries, services and products of the MSMEs of Cebu’s 5th district towns namely; Borbon, Sogod, Catmon, Carmen, Danao City, Compostela, Liloan, and the four towns of Camotes Island with the theme: “Fiesta sa Quinto Distrito.”

Cebu governor Gwendolyn Garcia, in her message Friday at the opening of R’Cebu said, Cebu always leads the way to support the province’s MSMEs as she thanked Robinsons Galleria for fully supporting the project for three years now.

“We work always leading the way and we assure you that we’ll sustain this program or perhaps the program will continue to evolve to show the best of the Cebuano and we do that with consistency and constancy,” Garcia added.

Department of Tourism (DOT) undersecretary Shalimar Tamano recalled how R’Cebu began at the height of the pandemic where everyone in Manila were opposed to the idea, but Cebu fought really hard to come up with the program.

“As tourism gains its momentum, we are now reaping the success of this program.  Cebu is now considered as the leader in the tourism industry as one of the major growth leaders in tourism development,” Tamano bared.

The R’Cebu at Robinsons Galleria opened today with the” best of the fifth district of Cebu” that include the local Suka from Tuba and Tubu wine of Borbon; Queso puti from Compostela; budbod kabog, torta from Catmon; various delicacies from Camotes Island; famous Titay’s cookies from Liloan and Balik Batik Filipiniana dress accents and many more.

Elena Arbon, regional director of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI-7) here said that there are many local MSMEs in Cebu that need outlets and support for their products.  R’Cebu and other similar program are avenues for them to display and showcase their products to buyers and the public.

“It is important that these industries must be with government support.  I am glad that the Province of Cebu wants to register the “Sugbo Negosyo” logo for its proprietary issue and we are pushing for products here like cacao, chocolate and coconut related products that are increasingly doing good here in Cebu,” Arbon revealed.
