MCIA front liners receive 1st dose of COVID vaccine

LAPULAPU CITY— Front line workers at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as part of MCIA’s commitment to prioritize the health and safety of its staff and passengers.

MEGAWIDE Cebu Airport Corporation president and GMR Louie Ferrer said that the vaccination of the front liners is essential to ensuring the continued health and safety of all who pass through and use the facilities of MCIA, as it is an additional layer of protection against COVID-19.

He added that despite the pandemic, MCIA remains open to serve and assist passengers, especially returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

Ferrer added that GMCAC is closely working with different government authorities and organizations to ensure the immediate allocation of vaccines for the entire airport community.

“It is also vital to the immediate jumpstarting of the local economy, especially for our supply chain, transportation, and tourism sectors, as many depend on the airport for their jobs and livelihoods,” Ferrer said.

Given the facility’s essential role as a main entry point to the country and a vital hub for transporting essential goods and services, the vaccination of front liners is vital to ensuring a healthy and safe environment for all stakeholders, as well as reinforcing its existing health and safety protocols.

The vaccination was done in cooperation with Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan and the City Government through its AHONG Cares Program, the Department of Health (DOH-7) the City Tourism Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission (CTCHAC) led by Cindi King-Chan, and the City Health Office (CHO).
