Talisay City reactivates its Motorcycle Wiper Patrol

TALISAY CITY, Cebu—Talisay City mayor Gerald Anthony Gullas, Jr. joined its local police led by Police Maj. Gerard Ace Pelayre and Lt. Col. Reyman Tolentin of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) in formally reactivating the Citi’s Motorcycle Wiper Patrol (MWP).

“With the Christmas and New Year season fast approaching, we cannot avoid the possibility that criminal elements could take advantage of those seasons by victimizing those visiting malls, banks and other business establishments in our city,” Gullas said in his opening message during the event on November 5.

Gullas said that with MWP, personnel from the local police will be onboard motorcycles and conduct non-stop patrols in different areas in Talisay City, particularly focusing in business centers in Barangays Bulacao and Tabunok.

The MWP can respond faster and can bypass heavy traffic to respond to incidents in motorcycles and the constant presence of MWP in business centers ensures that criminal elements will think twice in committing crimes, Gullas added.

Aside from the MWP Talisay City LGU has also activated its community police precincts in Barangays Bulacao, Linao and Tanke to further extend police presence in different parts of the city.

In another development earlier today mayor Gullas also joined the city officials and other participants in the Underwater and Coastal Cleanup at the Lagundi Reef and at the mangrove area in Barangay Biasong.

The cleanup was led by the Coastal Conservation and Education Foundation (CCEF) and supported by at least 11 different offices such as the Mayor’s office, City Agricultural Office, Solid Waste Management and Planning Office, Local Youth Development Office, Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, Philippine Coast Guard, FISECA Bantay Dagat of Talisay, Boy Scouts of the Philippines, the University of the Visayas, Maritime College, Ugly Grouper SCUBA Divers and officials of Barangay Biasong.

Gullas noted that when the pandemic hit, river cleanups also were also suspended. During the first six months in this administration they got over 200,000 kilos worth of garbage in its cleanup drives.

As COVID cases are going down, coastal and river cleanups will continue to be a priority, the mayor stated and there is really a need for this program right now especially with what the City has been experiencing as far as garbage is concerned.

“We also need to protect our marine life because what we throw will literally just come back to haunt us in the end.  Let us continue to work together for a clean Talisay City,” Gullas said.
