DA, NIA to establish a model farm for mechanized hybrid rice in Bohol

TAGBILARAN CITY – The Province of Bohol will soon have a 15-hectare mechanized hybrid rice model farm inside the Ubay Stock Farm located in Ubay town with the memorandum of agreement (NOA) signed on October 28 between the Department of Agriculture (DA-7) and the National Irrigation Administration (NIA-7) to formalize the collaborative effort between them to develop a model farm for other rice farmers in the region to learn.

DA-7 executive director Atty. Salvador Diputado said that the project costs P11.3 million that consists of farm inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, machineries, facility and equipment that cost around P8 million and another P3.5 million funds for civil works like land leveling which will be downloaded to the NIA.

"This is in compliance to Secretary William Dar’s directive to link up with the NIA in food production activities," Diputado added.

Mayor Vic Torres III of Alicia, Bohol; 2nd district Cong. Aris Aumentado and 3rd district Cong Kristine Alexie Tutor thanked Secretary William Dar and Senator Cynthia Villar for the assistance and active support in the conduct of the Farmers Field Day in Katipunan, Alicia featuring the Mechanized Technology Demonstration of National and Regional Recommended Inbred Rice Varieties.

According to Aumentado that the program will strengthen the farmers income, ensure food security and will make the country’s agricultural sector viable, efficient and globally competitive.
